Vote absentee
Voting absentee is easy
All you need to do is fill out this one-page form, sign it, and mail it to your city or town hall. Your completed absentee ballot must arrive at your local election office before the close of the polls on election day (8:00 p.m. for state elections).
Mailing your form
You need to find the address of your "City Clerk" or "Town Clerk" or "Election Commission." To find the address, try typing your city or town's name, along with the word "election", into Google.
Eligibility
You are eligible to vote absentee if you are a registered voter and if any of the following conditions apply:
- You will be absent from your city or town on election day
- You have a physical disability that prevents your voting at the polling place
- You cannot vote at the polls due to religious beliefs
Identification requirements
There is one potential snag for requesting an absentee ballot, and it applies to you if all of the following are true:
- You registered to vote by mail
- You didn't include a copy of any identification when you registered to vote
- This will be the first election you vote in
If those three conditions are true for you, the best way to make sure your vote is counted is to vote in person, and bring your ID. Sorry!
